Changxing Lü Cha 2021

The village of Guzhu, in Changxing, has been producing green tea for over a thousand years, and this green tea, with its fruity, sweet-savoury flavour and pointed leaves, resembles its older sibling Guzhu Zi Sun. This tea, however, while beginning with the scent of lychee, tips the balance in favour of savoury, the body evoking rich and mildly spicy palak paneer—spinach and a hint of cinnamon. An approachable and illustrative fine green tea, it rewards the rustic brewing style of topping up in a glass, releasing and developing its flavours quickly; an excellent choice for those who crave a stimulating green tea without too much coddling.

Compare with the more refined Guzhu Zi Sun, from the same tea farmer.

Preparation

IN THE TEAPOT
  • Quantity: 6g / 500ml

GONGFU CHA METHOD
  • Quantity: 2g / 150ml
  • Water temperature: 80°C

For best results brew in a tall glass and fill with water before adding the leaves. Too high water temperature would burn the leaves, and the tea would taste bitter and sour.
